Game Mechanics

  • Combat System: The main weapon, a massive, ancient sword, is almost too heavy for the protagonist to wield. The old man’s connection to the Spirit Realm allows him to temporarily gain the strength needed to use the sword by absorbing spiritual energy found scattered throughout the dungeons. Without this energy, the sword becomes a burden, forcing the player to either avoid enemies or find alternate ways to survive.
  • You can only find the strength to swing the sword if you find enough (SP) around dungeons. Each swing will consume SP until you have to find more, making it a survival horror game with a sword rather than guns.
  • I’m thinking that the power that allows you to swing the sword is insight or forbidden knowledge

  • Musical Integration with Heavy Metal Flair: The protagonist’s past life as a member of a rock band called “Wake the Kraken” is reflected in the gameplay. The old man and his wife were in a rock band together while they were still young with the wife as the lead singer and the old man on guitar. This adds motivation to the old man when desperately trying to get his wife back when he listens to the music. When in battle, the heavy metal tracks powered by his ancient earbuds shift the mood, adding an adrenaline rush to combat. While exploring, the soundtrack becomes eerie and atmospheric, enhancing the tension and mystery. When the player is just walking around and doing puzzles, only the instrumental version will play the specific song made for that dungeon. When the player enters the boss fight, then the lyrics of the song will kick in making the fight intense. I aim to have music similar to “I don’t care” by Violent Vira or something similar to SpiritBox given the name of this game. Puzzle-Solving Through Spirit Powers: Progression involves mastering the spirit powers you’ve been given, using them creatively to solve puzzles, access new areas, and interact with the environment.  Competitive/Similar Games:
    • Fear and Hunger: Dark, mature themes with a heavy focus on survival and atmosphere.
  • Signalis: For the indie survival horror aspect
  • Silent hill: A similar mystery to figure out a dark story
